FAQ
HOW ARE VOLUNTEERS MATCHED WITH THE SENIORS?
Volunteers sign up and select the language(s) that they are most comfortable speaking. Based on this, our team works with care facilities to find a senior that is a good match for each volunteer.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR VOLUNTEERS?
After starting, there is a minimum time commitment of three months, during which volunteers are required to send at least one letter per month.
DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE SAME LOCATION AS THE NURSING HOMES?
No, it isn't required that volunteers are in the same locations as the nursing homes, since handwritten letters are the main form of communication with the seniors.
DO THE LETTERS HAVE TO BE HANDWRITTEN?
While not mandatory, we prefer that the letters are handwritten (and not typed). Our organization believes that handwritten letters are more personal, and will better allow the volunteer and senior to foster a closer pen-pal relationship.
IS SENDING LETTERS THE ONLY ACTIVITY THAT LETTERS FOR SENIORS OFFERS?
As of now, sending letters is the main form of communication and activity that our organization offers. However, we plan to add new in-person events and activities in the future.
I AM INTERESTED IN EXPANDING THE LETTERS TO SENIORS PROGRAM TO MY AREA.
We are definitely interested in expanding to different locations! Please feel free to send any recommendations and suggestions to officialletterstoseniors@gmail.com.
